Written between 1959-1969, German Twelve short stories (written after the war) is a compilation of stories wrapped in a depressing and gloomy atmosphere that is almost always tinged with overtones of unreality. The strange thing is the common element, while the madness and misery are two latent and constant presence in the daily lives of the characters.
Although the war is an implicit theme in each story, it is rarely the central topic of the stories. Someone may be acquired in a receiver of Ina Seidel, where more than reflects the hopelessness and despair product of the war with Germany was, in fact and morally defeated. There the protagonist, haunted by his ghost begins to relive the horror of their war experiences through a common, everyday: a radio.

Trains in the mist of Günter Eich tells the story of two brothers who pushes poverty very different paths. Here the theme of war also made explicit in a phrase: "are the years, the military, war, homeless ... and brutalized. Everything is shit. " Marie Luise Kaschnitz recreates a fantastic experience in Ghosts. Home delivery at no extra cost , Günter Kunert, one of my favorite stories of this work, tells of a grotesque as they have to take, whether to force all our sins.
The author of Double Trivia , Hubert Fichte, tested in this story a story without characters and narrates the same event conditioned by different circumstances. The narrator protagonist Tibten of Heinrich Böll, is a strange person but only for the eyes of others, he fully endorses their existence and to assume with some pride. Man tied Ilse Aichinger raises the issue of freedom in a predicament and has some Kafkaesque overtones, in fact, even within the work is the beginning of the story compare with that of The Metamorphosis to me the whole story resembles me A Hunger Artist, Franz Kafka also. The last story, The frozen smile of Hans Erich Nossack, try a quasi-hopeful message to a depressing situation and fateful.
All stories that make up this book were compiled by Professor Lotte Vareschi and translated by Yolanda Steffens, the prologue was missed by Henning Schroedter-Alberts. Although sometimes the presence of certain colloquialisms Venezuelans might embarrass the reader, broadly German Twelve short stories (written after the war) is a work ideal for reaching Germanic literature. Particularly enjoyed a lot and I am pleased to report that I got the whole book online, for those who can not buy the printed version. Here's the link:
